Pengah Kecil dive site is a small rocky island, protruding up from an impressive pinnacle underwater which starts at 27 meters. The barren rocks of the surface are a contrast to the booming life under the waves on this dive site. Located just about 4 kilometres to the north of central Rinca island, this spot is a little exposed to the ocean so visibility can be a bit hit and miss, and currents can pick up from medium to strong. This site can be dived on the north or the south side of the island depending on the current on the day.
One of the most numerous inhabitants of this site are the Turtles and Moray Eels, but the most sort after are the Whipcoral Shrimp and Pygmy Seahorse.
Other than that, you can expect to see Eagle Rays, Jackfish, Bumphead Parrot Fish, Frogfish and various types of other shrimp.
Another big draw of the site is the resident population of White Tip Reef Sharks, who you can often find lazing about under plate coral in the main plateau area.
We drop into this site with a positive buoyancy entry back roll on the 5 meter slope to start the dive.
Here we make our way down to the plateau at 10 meters to explore around the various hard corals and look for the previously mentioned White Tip Reef Sharks.
From here we will make our way over to check out the mini wall and small plateaus on the eastern side of the dive site that drop down to around 25 meters.
Home to plenty of Whipcoral extending out from the wall face and an opportunity to find the elusive Whipcoral Shrimp.
From there we can keep the reef on our right and swing around to explore the rest of the slope at 25 meters.
Finally coming up to a shallow small plateau on the western side, perfect for starting to bring our level up and get ready for a safety stop.
This is actually one of the most beautiful parts of the site as it is a memorising coral garden, where the sunlight penetrates down to create a bloom of colour and fish activity.
