What You Can Expect on Our Adventure to Raja Ampat

A Vast Array of Marine Life

Raja Ampat is home to a vast array of marine life and over 70% of all known coral species worldwide. Manta Rays, Reef Sharks, Schools of fish, in various sizes and shapes, frequently surround you as you dive in this amazing location. At dive sites like Blue Magic or Cape Kri, where the deeper reefs drop off and stronger currents attract schools of fish that seem to float effortlessly in the currents above the reef, the spectacle can be almost overwhelming to behold.

The Season

Raja Ampat can be dived year round with the best time to dive in the archipelago really depends on what you are looking for and diving preferences overall. “The best time” will differ if you are seeking to avoid crowds underwater (May to October) compared to if you are hoping to see more Manta Rays and other fish (November to April).

The Diving Difficulty

There are a couple of aspects to consider regarding the difficulty of diving Raja Ampat. Strong currents bring impressive numbers of marine life, however they may not be for everyone’s comfort level. Its remote locale requires divers to be fully prepared and comfortable. For these reasons we require all divers have a minimum of 40 logged dives as an Open Water Diver or 20 logged dives as an Advanced Open Water Diver.

The Above-water Activities

Raja Ampat encompasses over 40,000 square kilometers of beauty, with its four main islands—Waigeo, Batanta, Salawati, and Misool—forming the heart of the region. These islands are some of the most breathtaking landscapes on Earth.

Among the standout attractions are Wayag Island and Pianemo Island. Their jagged limestone karsts, emerging dramatically from turquoise lagoons, creating an iconic image often featured in travel magazines.

Beyond all that, Raja Ampat is also a haven for biodiversity, particularly for bird lovers. The region is home to the legendary Birds-of-Paradise, a rare and exotic group of species that can only be found in this part of the world.

Included in our trip to Raja Ampat (subject to weather) are hiking to the famous Piaynemo & Wayag.

Indonesia is very much dependent on tourism, and  the government continues to invest heavily not just in safety, but in logistics, ensuring that trips go as smoothly as they possibly can.

Due to the vessel’s location on the equator, it would be sensible to bring a hat, some longer sleeved/legged clothes to protect your arms and legs from the sun, and a decent pair of sun glasses. At night however, the temperatures can drop somewhat, so we advise maybe a warm-ish jumper if you intend on spending much time on deck stargazing.

Onboard it is safest to go barefoot as our decking can often get wet, and the anti-slip treatments we use are significantly more effective against bare skin. It is also advisable to bring some sturdy footwear for the light / mild treks that we go on. A thin raincoat would also be advisable, or you can just live in your wetsuit 24/7!!!
