Overview

On the unspoiled beaches of Raja Ampat, the Cendana Pearl Farm Jetty is a great dive site for anyone who loves to view rare and remarkable macro marine life in its natural setting.

Located on the northwestern part of the island of Waigeo, the Cendana Pearl Farm offers a straightforward dive with loads of diverse marine life, whether you choose to explore right off the structure or venture out along the sandy slopes out from the jetty.

The Topography

The dive site descends gradually to a depth of about 20 meters (65 feet) at the farthest point. Between jetty and shore, divers enjoy a leisurely, close-to-sea-surface experience that is good for both new and veteran divers.

If you want to practice your buoyancy skills or work on your underwater photography, this is the place to do it. With almost no current to battle, you really can’t go wrong.

Incredible Biodiversity

The Cendana Pearl Farm Jetty is renowned for its incredible biodiversity and for being home to many rare and unusual creatures. Here, macro photographers can revel in the number of tiny critters in which to immerse themselves.

Prime Spot for Underwater Photographers

The Cendana Pearl Farm Jetty is known for its high concentration of rare and unusual creatures. Macro photographers will be in their element here, with a wealth of tiny critters to spot.

Despite the Water’s low visibility, the abundance of life found along the edges of the jetty makes it a prime spot for photographers hoping to capture something spectacular.

This abundance is also what draws divers to the jetty; for them, every inch of the site teems with something interesting to gawk at.

The Marine Life

Although not every diver will have the good fortune to encounter the species mentioned here, all have a decent chance of at least spotting a few of them.

Species like the starry night octopus, white-V octopus, and coconut octopus make regular appearances.

For those with a keen eye, the blue-ringed octopus and bobtail squid are frequent sightings, along with pegasus sea moths, which are sure to impress even the most seasoned divers.

The unusual fish, such as the clown frogfish and toadfish, call the dive site home. Meanwhile, the area’s scarce rocky terrain shelters some of the ocean’s most elusive fish, like the stonefish and wobbegong shark.

If you’re diving in the space between these two very different ecosystems, keep an eye out for pipefish and even rare egg-carrying frogfish Lophiocharon species in the sandy patches between them.

The Diving

The Cendana Pearl Farm Jetty is an easy place to dive. There is no need for any tricky navigation; the jetty and the nearby reef make it plenty obvious where to go and what to see. And what you want to see, more often than not, is something small and amazing, like the frogfish that sometimes “live” under the ledges on the bottom of this jetty dive.

The bottom is shallow here and it’s a prime spot for both macro photography and just looking at amazing underwater wildlife that makes the Cendana Pearl Farm Jetty feel like a “what’s-wrong-with-that-picture?” kind of paradise.

The water is calm, with little to no current. This, coupled with the serenity the area provides, makes for some memorable dives.

This dive site is perfect for divers seeking a calm, sheltered environment in which to meet some of Raja Ampat’s most peculiar—and hard-to-find—species on a night dive.

It is encouraged for Photographers and macro lovers, and its mellow nature makes it a good stop-off point for some of Raja Ampat’s less experienced divers wanting to get in one of their first night dives.

Diving the site is very simple, descend down the sandy slope in a zig zag pattern to 20 meters searching for all the critters you can, and do the same in reverse back up the slope to 5 meters for your safety stop.
