Fiabacet epitomizes the Raja Ampat dive experience and is one of the premier dive sites in the Misool region.
This stretch of water is home to an incredible variety of corals and an even greater number of coral reef-associated fish.
The formation here dives from about 5 meters on top of a reef wall, dropping down to anywhere from 20 to 35 meters.
This depth depends on if you are on the top of a reef, at the edge, or in the midst of a clear blue undersea world that gives shelter to the kind of pelagic hunters and reef-associated fish that are out for a good time.
It’s a relatively easy dive site, but it’s also a site that commands your full attention. By our reckoning, Fiabacet is either a site that is always teeming with life or that just never misses in showing off its resident cast to a diver.
Necessary for diving: Fiabacet has moderate to strong currents sweep past the walls and ridges.
These currents deliver a steady supply of nutrient-rich waters that feed the reef’s extraordinary biodiversity.
The reef is a great place to drift dive if you enjoy riding currents.
There are not a lot of reef structures to navigate, and the dive is mainly along the wall, with the reef descending into deep water.
Schools of snappers and jacks are always around, and if your eye is trained to see the silhouettes of fishes, you’re likely to catch a glimpse of the shy reef inhabitants.
Fiabacet also attracts large pelagic species. On the best days, you’ll see not just one but several manta rays, that incredible flat fish that can glide seemingly effortlessly through the water.
Key Points to Ponder: To truly explore the reef at Fiabacet, you want to be between 10 and 25 meters down. The coral is more vibrant at that depth.
You can drive this reef, or you can more or less chill and let currents carry you on gentle, undulating paths past all manner of wondrous sights.
Close encounters with amazing marine life are commonplace here, and the colourful stories you can spin afterward make this not just a dive site but also an ideal stop for any photography enthusiast.
