This site is known for its resident population of endemic Raja Ampat Tasselled Wobbegong Sharks that hide under the ledges and in crevasses in the coral and rocks.
My Reef dive site is located on the south east tip of Penemu Island in Raja Ampat. This site is known for its resident population of endemic Raja Ampat Tasselled Wobbegong Sharks that hide under the ledges and in crevasses in the coral and rocks.
Visibility is good at 20 meters and currents are not too bad, so this site is suitable for both intermediate and well as more advanced divers.
When it comes to marine life, My Reef is an amazing dive, so much life, schooling big eye trevallies, great barracudas, white tip reef sharks hunting, black tip reef sharks patrolling the reef and wobbegong sharks just lying in the corals.
We also see lots of napoleons, bumphead parrot fish, Blue Ribbon Eels, mushroom coral pipefish, turtles and sometimes the odd Manta Ray.
We start the dive by dropping into the deepest part at the south east edge of the site. We will swim with the reef on our left and head in a north direction, checking out the 3 impressive coral bommies along the bottom between 30 and 25 meters.
If the current is mild enough we will be able to circle the whole reef, heading into the sloping reef from here keeping it on our left hand side all the way and gradually raising our profile as the dive goes on. The top reef ranges between 16 to 8 meters so makes a great gradual profile raise until we have to pop up to 5 meters to do our safety stop to end the dive.
