Getting to Manado

Manado

We have a few suggestions for you to get to each destination depending on where you are coming from. If you need any assistance or advice with booking flights or a hotel, please contact us via info@lagaligoliveaboard.com.

Our team has many years of travel experience around Indonesia.
Below we have advised the most direct route for you to get to where La Galigo departs from. These are not necessarily the cheapest options, and it may be necessary to overnight in a local hotel to catch ongoing flights. We have also recommended a few hotels, all of which the owners have personally stayed in to ensure their quality for the area.

With all our trips, we highly recommend arriving and staying in the town located where La Galigo departs from the night prior to your trip beginning. Domestic flights in Indonesia can be unpredictable and are often subject to delays

Getting to
Manado

The areas of Bangka, Lembeh and Sangihe Archipelago are relatively unvisited (Especially Sangihe). So, how do you get there? Your journey begins with an international flight into Indonesia, followed by a domestic flight to Sam Ratulangi International Airport (MDC) on the Sulawesi Island.

As the capital of Northern Sulawesi, Manado serves as the main gateway for liveaboard dive boats. Though getting to these dive spots requires a bit of extra time and preparation, the rewards are well worth the effort.

Indonesia offers multiple international airports throughout its archipelago. Most international visitors typically arrive via Jakarta or Bali, as both airports provide direct domestic flights to Manado.

  • Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (CGK)
  • Surabaya Juanda Airport (SUB)
  • Bali Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS)
  • Makassar Sultan Hasanuddin Airport (UPG)

Upon arrival

Upon arrival in Indonesia, passengers are required to go through customs and immigration with all the required documents, including a visa, before proceeding to baggage claim to retrieve their belongings.

Most domestic airlines in Indonesia do not have baggage transfer agreements with major international carriers, meaning travelers must collect their luggage and check in for onward domestic flights.

  • Garuda Airlines – Part of the Skyteam Alliance
  • Air Asia
  • Lion Air Batik Air
  • Sriwijaya Air

To ensure you don’t miss your La Galigo departure, guests must arrive in Manado the day before and book an overnight stay at a Manado hotel. Airport and hotel pick up are between 7:00am and 8:00am the day of departure.
